The Toyota 4Runner is an old-school body-on-frame SUV and the company is leaning towards it with a retro-inspired 40th anniversary version.
Based on the 4Runner SR5 Premium, the special edition features a white, midnight black metallic or Barcelona red metallic exterior that contrasts with the bronze 17-inch alloy wheels. They are joined by a body-color heritage grill with special badges and the letter “TOYOTA”.
However, the most beautiful detail is the Heritage Graphics package which has a yellow, orange and red line following the shoulder line of the SUV before shooting the C-Pillar. The same accent can also be found on the Grill and Telgate badges.

Entering the cabin, the headrest has black SofTex seats with bronze contrast stitching and 40th anniversary badges. Designers have also installed a dashboard panel, special floor mats and a standard power moonroof.
Production will be limited to 4,040 units and each will be powered by a 4.0-liter V6 that produces 270 hp (201 kW / 274 PS) and 278 lb-ft (376 Nm) of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and a standard four-wheel drive system.
Aside from the 40th anniversary edition, the 2023 Toyota 4Runner basically carries. However, it is a bit safer than before because all the trim is now equipped with a blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert.
Customers who upgrade to the Off-Road Focused 4Runner TRD Pro will also get a modified color palette that now has staples like Solar Octane as well as Black, White and Magnetic Gray Metallic.
