Range concerns are a thing of the past, but long-distance recharging sessions are still required for long-distance travel in electric vehicles.
Polyester realizes that this is a problem, so they have made a strategic investment in Stordot, an “extremely fast charging pioneer.”
Although the latter company is not a family name, Polyester says they are developing silicone-powered batteries that allow for extremely fast charging. Specifically, the company aims to have batteries capable of reaching a range of 100 miles (161 km) in five minutes by 2024.

Thanks to the investment, Polyester and Stordot will explore the technology “adapted and applied” to polyester vehicles. Although this work will primarily focus on prototypes, Polyester CEO Thomas Ingenlath said, “If our current pilot projects, including Stordot, are successful, we could see these solutions implemented in Polyester cars by 2026.”
Meanwhile, Polestar 2 owners can use a 155 kW DC fast charger to get 80% charge in about 35 minutes. Not too bad, but Stordt’s batteries could theoretically allow the model to fully recharge in less than 15 minutes.
