Kia K5 Hyundai Sonata may be dropped as well, Stinger production is about to end

It looks like Hyundai Motor Group has a spring clearance and all sedans must go.

Following reports that Hyundai Sonata is living on borrowed time, Automotive News suggests the Kia K5 will have similar consequences.

Although nothing is official, one analyst speaking to the publication believes that Sonata will be given another facelift before being removed in 2027 or 2028. However, Hyundai is downplaying rumors of the car’s death as they have finally responded to our original request for comment, noting that “the gold remains and will continue to be an important part of Hyundai’s product lineup.” Any rumors about its future are pure guesswork. “

This is not exactly a denial and it would be surprising if the automaker confirms that the model was killed five or six years before her final death. However, Hyundai focuses on electrification and the company has already confirmed that the upcoming Ioniq 6 will be roughly the size of a sonata so that it could potentially serve as its replacement.

We’ll probably have to wait a few years before we find out the fate of Sonata and K5, but it looks like the deadly rapper is finally ready to claim Kia Stinger. The model’s death has been widely rumored, but an insider told Automotive News that production will end later this quarter. That being said, a spokesperson told the publication that “Stinger Kear is an important part of the award-winning car lineup and a strong part of our overall brand transformation.”

Looking at the sales chart is not very enlightening because K5 was launched in the coronavirus epidemic and has only one year of sales under its belt. That said, the company sold 92,326 units in the U.S. last year and moved 23,376 units in the first four months of 2022.

These numbers are not alarming as Optima generated 96,623 sales in 2019 and 101,603 sales in 2018. However, these numbers are a significant drop from the 150,000 units sold annually between 2012 and 2015.

Stinger, on the other hand, is a premium product with more decent volume. Sales peaked shortly after launch in 2018, when the company sold 16,806 units in the United States. They have been circulating about 13,000 units since then and the company has already transferred 4,002 units in the first four months of the year.
