Although Lotus has worked exclusively as a specialized manufacturer of sports cars for its entire existence, the era of electrification has persuaded it to expand its ambitions.
With the unveiling of the all-electric Eletre SUV and the heel of cash flashes from Geely, Lotus aims to sell 100,000 cars annually by 2028. Although it doesn’t sound like much if you consider the likes of Toyota and the Volkswagen group each regularly sells 10 million units annually, a memento for the 100,000 Lotus.
In fact, the British carmaker was able to produce only 1,710 cars last year. Not only that, Lotus took 70 years to build its 100,000th car in 1948, a red Evora that closed production lines in August 2018. It has averaged more than 1,400 vehicles per year for 70 years.

Time to talk to the Australian publication Drive Regarding the company’s production plans, managing director Matt Windle said a host of EVs would drive growth.
“Globally, the 2023 Lotus Eletre SUV (above) will launch things, but it will not arrive in Australia until 2024,” he confirmed. “Then we have four-door Panamara-fighters [Type 134] Coming a little later, another [Type 135 medium] SUV by 2025, and then finally our dedicated and exciting sports car [Type 136] In 2026. “
The Lotus Eletre is expected to start at around 100,000 and will be built exclusively in China. It serves as an all-electric alternative to the Porsche Cayenne and will come to market with a battery of more than 100 kWh and will offer a range of about 373 miles (600 km). It will also support 350 kW charging. The entry-level model is good for 592 hp and should hit 62 mph (100 km / h) in less than 3 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 160 mph (257 km / h).
