Grace Kelly’s baby, and the sovereign prince of Monaco, Albert II, did a pretty special drive around his domain this weekend. With the wheel of the McLaren Artura, he rode in a respectable lap of the famous Grand Prix circuit.
Gareth Danmore, McLaren’s chief marketing officer, said: “We are honored to open the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix behind the wheel of Monaco’s HSH Prince Albert II McLaren Arthur.”
Finished at McLaren Orange, Artura was brought to Prince in the starting line, where he was able to complete a lap of the circuit in front of the crowd. Not only is Monegasque on the track, he was probably happier with his weekend results than Ferrari F1 driver Charles Leclerc, who finished the race in fourth place after starting at the pole.

McLaren’s most recent plug-in hybrid, Artura, looks to the brand’s electrified future. The supercar produces a combined 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) with an electric motor with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo wide-angle V6. Thanks to a carbon fiber monocoque weighing only 181 pounds (82 kg), the carb weighs only 3,302 pounds (1,498 kg) despite being a plug-in hybrid.
Artura is capable of hitting 60 miles (96 km / h) from stagnation in three seconds and can run quarter-miles in 10.7 seconds. McLaren did not share what Monaco’s lap time was, although we suspect the prince really pushed it.
Prince Albert II is not the only royal to be recently awarded by McLaren. The automaker celebrated its own regent with an artura dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate its platinum jubilee.
