BMW 2023 has chosen the lightest facelift for 3-Series mid-cycle refresh. The refurbished car offers a handful of exterior changes, an expansion of the color palette, and a new wheel design.
This is definitely a fresh look for BMW. Admittedly, the 2023 3-Series is not just a facelift and a completely new model, we’ve probably become accustomed to BMW’s general shock-and-surprise techniques with the release of the new design. That said, the most admirable differences are found inside the BMW’s curved display on the inside, as well as the introduction of the latest iDrive 8 operating system.
With the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder available on the 330i and 330e, the drivetrain option and specs are the same as last year’s car. A 3.0-liter turbo inline-six mild-hybrid is present and accurate for the M340i. The xDrive all-wheel drive remains an option, with an eight-speed transmission as standard.
Also, US-market vehicles will be built exclusively at the new San Luis Potosi facility in Mexico.
Squint or you will miss the design changes to it
The most notable change in the front-end of the new 3-Series is the re-profile headlights. Like what we saw on the i3 eDrive35L in China, the headlights are now thinner. A slight indentation is left at the bottom end between the sink and the main beam, to give a cleaner – but arguably less characteristic – look to the front. The full-LED headlight graphics are transformed into an inverted L-shape, mimicking the haloes that were once synonymous with the brand.
A huge relief for everyone is that an M3-esque snout on BMW has resisted the urge to graft. Although fitted with grills – double bars and slightly altered contours achieved – the result is, we dare say, handsome.

The front and rear bumpers, on the other hand, weren’t so lucky. The new design, with its more aggressive angles to emphasize the “new BMW 3 Series sporting mission”, is a bit clumsy.
In fact, BMW’s Facelift’s main Thrust 3-Series is positioned as a sportier alternative to Get-Go. Shadowline trim – BMW-Speak for black-out exterior bits – is now standard, leaving satin aluminum exterior trim as an option.
New wheel, color, and M-Sport options
Other exterior changes include a brand new approval-wheel design and a new range of exterior colors, including the Skyscraper Gray Metallic and the M340i model combined with the Brooklyn Gray Metallic or the 330i and 330e M Sport packages.
Also, the M Sport packages offered for the 330i and 330e have been modified to include chrome highlights for the grille, an M-Sport-specific rear apron, variable sport steering and 19-inch wheels.
Meanwhile, the M340i and M340i xDrive have got a unique look of their own, including mesh-designed kidney grilles, double-spoke wheels, trapezoid tailpipes and an M rear spoiler. The 2023 M340is will be available with the classic BMW Motorsport Roundle, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the BMW M GmbH.
Wide screen inside
The 2023 BMW 3-Series upgrades to the latest interior technology, including BMW’s curved display, a 12.3-inch driver-information screen on the back of the wheels, and a 14.9-inch central display, centered towards the driver in a typical BMW. Fashion
Includes new internal sophisticated drives, running on BMW operating system 8. It has improved speech recognition with the help of BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant which can now open and close windows and sunroofs and adjust climate control using natural speech.

The new 2023 3-Series is also 5G-ready, allowing for greater connectivity through the car’s own antenna system. Optional personal eSIM can be used as your own “BMW ID”, with the ability to transfer to another vehicle, the SIM certificates are configured when signing in to other vehicles.
There are no major changes under the skin, delivery begins in July
For North America, the 2023 BMW 3-Series will continue to be offered in the same variant as the 2022 model.
That means the 330i will be available with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder that produces 255 hp (258 PS / 190 kW) and 294 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque and the 330e which adds a 2.0-liter turbo four. An electric motor for the combined output of 288 hp (292 PS / 218 kW) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque.
Steps up to the M340i, and the PowerPlant is a 3.0-liter inline-six engine that delivers 382 hp (387 PS / 289 kW) with 368 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.
All models will be supplied with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, while available across the xDrive (aka All-Wheel Drive) range. Delivery worldwide, including in the United States, will begin in June, with prices expected to be announced next month.
