Gas prices are close to the all-time high, but Toyota is coming to the rescue with the 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid.
Designed to be affordable and fuel efficient, the Corolla Cross Hybrid will be manufactured at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing Plant in Huntsville, Alabama and will be sold in the United States later this year.
Toyota has not revealed many specifications but has confirmed that the model will have a fifth-generation hybrid system as well as a standard all-wheel drive. It doesn’t have much, but the crossover will have a combined output of 194 hp (145 kW / 197 PS) and is 25 hp (19 kW / 25 PS) higher than the standard model.
This will enable the Corolla Cross Hybrid to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km / h) in 8.0 seconds and return a combined approximately 37 mpg. The latter is 7 mpg better than the all-wheel-drive versions of the Corolla Cross, as well as 5 mpg better than the front-wheel-drive versions.
Five trims with three S variants
Full details will be announced near the launch, but the Corolla Cross Hybrid will be offered in five different trims, including the familiar LE and XLE grades. Adding to them are new S, SE, and XSE trims featuring sportier styling and a sport-tuned suspension.
Equipped with S LED lighting unit, a passive entry system and 17-inch alloy wheels. Buyers will receive an 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new infotainment system will come standard for all 2023 Corolla Cross models and will offer cloud-based navigation, an intelligent assistant, over-the-air updates and integrated Amazon Music and Apple Music streaming.
The SE trim adds privacy glass, roof rails and pedal shifters, while the XSE is distinguished by premium LED lighting units, fog lights and large 18-inch alloy wheels. The next grade also boasts heated SofTex front seats with power adjustment on the driver’s side.
The SE and XSE trims offer a two-tone exterior with a black roof that contrasts with the Acidic Blast, Barcelona Red Metallic, Blue Crush Metallic or Sonic Silver metallic bodies. Customers can also choose monotonous exteriors in a few of the colors mentioned above, such as Cypress, Jet Black Mica and Wind Chill Pearl.
Returning to the equipment, all the 2023 Corolla Cross models are equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 Suite Driver Assistance System. It replaces the previous 2.0 system and features a number of enhancements as well as enhanced detection capabilities.
In particular, pre-collision systems with pedestrian detection can now detect motorcycles in certain situations. The model prides itself on “Advanced Lane Recognition” for Lane Departure Alerts with Intersection Turning Assist and Advanced Lane Tracing Assist and Steering Assist.
Other highlights include dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beams, road sign assist and a rear seat reminder. They are joined by a blind-spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert.
