The Buick Electra-X concept is an electric coupe-crossover for China

This has been a great day for Buick’s design team. In addition to unveiling the Wildcat EV concept, which foreshadows the future of brand design in North America, it has also unveiled the Electra-X, which looks forward to what Chinese consumers can expect.

Developed by GM’s PATAC engineering and design team in Shanghai, it shares some of the details with the Wildcat EV concept that has been interpreted in a close-up production style. In fact, Buick says the show car previews its new generation of EVs for the market that will be based on GM’s versatile Ultium platform.

Electra-X Sportsbook’s new tri-shield badge, which sits on a newly designed front end. The automaker describes it as a “shark-nose” that leans forward and integrates a new trapezoidal grille.

The front is complemented by a high-mounted check-mark-style headlight, complemented by an aviation-inspired lamp at the end of the grille. These will be the signatures of the advancing Buick design. The lights also ‘dance and flash’ when you approach a car in a greeting animation. Finally, the car can project information to the side and back to protect pedestrians.

Although the Buick Electra-X is called an SUV, it has a coupe-like proportions and a low-profile silhouette to highlight the EV’s athletic character. That appeal is further enhanced by the 21-inch wheel which, in addition to being beautiful to look at, is aerodynamically optimized.

Inside, the EV gets four seats set up for maximum comfort, while a wrapped glass and a panoramic sunroof make it more spacious. The seats mentioned above are decorated with a 3D knit fabric made from recyclable plastic bottles to make them greener.

Slim air vents are integrated into the instrument panel and feature the concept that Buick calls a virtual cockpit system. Using QUALCOMM’s flagship Snapdragon chip, it has a 30-inch freeform display that captures images with 6K resolution. Capable of reflecting one billion colors, it has a pixel density that extends beyond the limits of the human eye.

It also has 5G connectivity for fast response and streaming video transmission and can be updated over the air. If you do not want to get a fingerprint on your screen and do not want to lose its significant resolution, the car supports voice commands to control things like A / C, seats and lighting.

The Super Cruise driver has been further enhanced with support technology and an iKey technology that allows owners to use their phones as a key, making the Electra-X a tech showcase as well as a design showcase.

Matt Noon, Executive Director of SAIC-GM PATAC Design, said, “Buick is well-known throughout China for his beautiful style.” “The Electra-X will be a significant game-changer for Buick, offering not only electrical, but also sporty and attractive products to young customers. Many design elements from the concept will be applied to future production models. “
