Porsche has teamed up with designer and influential Shawn Waterspoon to create an attractive art car. Based on the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo, the one-off sneaker takes inspiration from design, but reminds us of the Harlequin creation of Volkswagen.
Wotherspoon, who made his name with the Nike Air Max 97/1, has teamed up with Style Porsche (Porsche’s in-house design team) to create a car that has color blocks on a panel-by-panel basis. Inspired by ‘South by South West’, each of the exterior colors is named after the artist’s family members – Nash Blue, Shawn Peach, Loretta Purple and Ashley Green.
The car used is actually the artist’s own personal Taycan 4 Cross Turismo. Virtual reality technology was used to visualize the concept before the ‘paint frog’ (used for color testing) was sprayed with each Pantone reference. Wotherspoon was able to see the colors in person and in different lighting conditions at the Porsche Design Studio before deciding on the final combination.
Going inside, the color blocking theme continues, with a combination of materials that Wotherspoon uses in its streetwear and Porsche’s past classic elements. These include the Corduroy, featuring the seat centers of the Porsche 356, and the Cork. However, the inclusion of cork in the dashboard was challenging due to the complex size, the team decided for a layered version of the material.

Other components of the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur include a 21-inch cross turismo design wheel and rear wiper cover – both painted in black (high-gloss) – as well as a light strip with black Porsche letters.
Porsche says the four colors used on the exterior of the Cross Tours will be offered to customers in the future. Conversely, those who want to go full hog and copy the customizations seen can use Porsche’s exclusive manufacturer’s Sundrons program.
