The Mercedes B-Class Facelift Spide, will probably be the last of its kind

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class will soon receive a midlife update to compete with the all-new BMW 2-Series Active Tourer, both of which are the only models in the premium compact MPV segment. After the spy’s debut a few months ago, a new light disguised prototype was captured by our spy photographers in Germany.

In terms of design, the third generation of the B-Class, which was launched in 2019, stays quite fresh and is considered a handsome vehicle for the segment. In ordinary Mercedes fashion, the facelift will bring minor changes. The camouflage covers the slightly redesigned front bumper with grille which will get a modern change.

The headlights will achieve updated LED graphics, with a more subtle treatment similar to that of the taillights. Inside the cabin, the MPV is expected to be available for dual 10.25-inch screens with updated MBUX software, modified trim and upholstery options.

Visual changes seem to be minor compared to the current B-class (bottom), mostly focusing on the front.

The Facelifted B-Class will debut shortly after the Facelifted A-Class, and both models will receive similar updates. Powertrain options will probably be carried with the minor update, including the flagship B250e plug-in hybrid with 1.3-liter petrol and 2.0-liter diesel, as well as light-hybrid technology. Mercedes has confirmed that it will stop offering a manual transmission as an alternative by 2023, which means that the updated family of compact models will automatically leave just like the rest of the lineup.

Mercedes recently announced its future strategy, focusing on high-end models, reducing the compact range from seven to four body styles. The B-Class is one of the first models, as the MPV’s popularity continues to decline, and its role can be filled by LCV-derived models such as the Citan / T-Class and the upcoming EQT. This means that the facelifted B-Class could be the last of its kind, extending the life of the model by a few more years.

We’ll learn more about the B-Class by the time the official debut is expected in late 2022 or early 2023.
