This BMW E34 M5 in the ring proves that a good track car is not always the latest and

BMW has long claimed itself as the ultimate driving machine, and we are fortunate enough to witness the brand’s dominance on the race track. Although some of its models are starting to show their age, that doesn’t mean they still can’t hold their own around Green Hale.

YouTuber Misha Charudin takes us on a spirited drive on a 1990 BMW M5 to prove that older dogs can get what they need to fight Nurburgring. As an early production E34, the power comes courtesy of a 3.6-liter version of BMW’s S38B36 Straight-Six, which delivers 311 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. Subsequent models of the E34 will expand the engine to 3.8-liter for 335 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque power output, coupled with a six-speed manual.

The M5 is remarkably stock, the owner says the only upgrades are slightly lower suspension and brakes from the 7-Series in addition to the M-parallel wheels.

Although the speed is not as high as other vehicles on the track, the real fun of driving is in the speed of the car and the sound of the engine. Tires can be heard fighting for their lives when the car turns into a corner, but it still provides enough grip to stay on the sidewalk.

If you don’t know that this video is set on a race track, it’s possible that you might think it’s a regular Sunday drive for the owner and the Cedet M5. Individual throttle body injection and exhalation make a great sound, but the car stays calm and comfortable even though the wingspan of the tachometer is around 7,000 rpm.

Charoudin says the ride remained smooth and precise, and the M5 was able to keep up with the Cayman behind them.

Several automakers have released new models that claim their credentials around the ‘ring’. But as the video proves, you don’t need a huge budget or extreme track-focused ride to have fun while driving, just a car of your choice and you don’t need enough confidence to drive it.
